Taking up knitting!

Don’t ask me what ever possessed me to take up knitting, but I just felt I had to. I now have all this wonderfully homespun yarn and I guess I want to knit some socks. So I got a pair of knitting needles and started knitting and purling on some old acrylic yarn I had laying around from my pre-spinning, pre-wool-snob days. This is going along pretty good. I had a strange start where I was purling wrong and had every other row with the ridges. But my friend straightened me out and now I’m doing fine.

I actually went to buy some yarn to practice with and ended up finding some bamboo yarn on sale so I picked up 2 skeins and made a scarf. Finished it in three days. I think it ended up looking fairly nice. I still have to block it before posting a picture.

Of course I’m so used to crochet going much quicker. I don’t know if that is because I’ve been crocheting for so long that I’m a lot quicker at it, or I am just a slow beginning knitter.

I want to knit a hoodie now.

Spinning for Fun

I don’t know what I’m going to make with it, but I finally got around to spinning the pink merino/silk top with the firestar that I picked up at The Woolery this summer. With about a foot of snow on the ground it seems like the perfect thing to be doing.

There is about 142 yards (Edit – with a 2nd skein it came out to 227 yards total)  This was such a fun yarn to spin, I just might have to go back and get some more!

Now if I can only get around to carding the three bags of Shetland I have waiting for me…
