Working the Festival

I demonstrated spinning at the local festival this weekend and had a really great time.  I thought it was just going to be something small, and that I would have a lot of down time.  No way – this place was packed.  I spun for five hours on Saturday and another five on Sunday.  I let people feel the wool before spinning, feel it as a single on the bobbin and then feel some of my finished skeins.

Human nature.. almost to a person, the women wanted to talk about the yarn, the feel, the wool choices and how a fiber artist can control so much of their work from start to finish.  The men were fascinated with the wheel.  I can’t count how many times I explained how it worked.  The kids were just in awe of the whole process.  I was in heaven!

I picked up three new spinning lesson customers, two new sources for wool, and have a lead on a used wheel for one of my customers.  Not bad for networking amongst the festival folk.  I really didn’t expect anything except maybe getting bored and not getting much out of it personally except to help get people excited about the passion you get about spinning.
