Too busy to post

This month has been very busy. One of the highlights of this spinner’s summer was actually stepping foot inside the door of the Woolery! Yes – in person. I picked up some pink merino/silk roving and also a package of Firestar. They were so nice there. It was 103 degrees so they let me bring my dog into the store!

My next trip this month was an annual golf trip with the girls. Nonstop laughing! Honestly.

In the past week we had our monthly fiber arts guild meeting and we were having such a good time we all overstayed our welcome and I didn’t leave until 9:45pm and I was the first one out the door! I was given a sample of June’s Jacobs wool, and Sherry gave me a sample of her pink and blue dyed Shetland.

It has been raining so much lately that mushrooms are popping up all over the place. I took June’s white Jacob and put it in the dye pot with a couple of mushrooms. It is still sitting in the solution, so I will probably post the results tomorrow. I pre-soaked the wool in vinegar and heated it to a simmer. Then I transferred it into the mushroom solution which I used alum and cream of tartar as mordants. I used the hard water from the well holding tank, prior to going into the water softener, so there should be some iron in there as well. I simmered the pot for about an hour and then shut it off and left the wool to absorb the color. It was looking pretty golden when I left it last.

I actually got some crochet done with all this activity. I made a blue thread crochet shawl. 8/2 Mercerized Cotton – about 1000 yards. Now that this one is finished I am working on something in a pink thread crochet with a different pattern.

Thread Crochet Shawl in Diamond Trellis Stitch design - my own pattern.

The span of the shawl is 6.5 feet. I thought if I placed it on the oak floorboards it would give it size perspective, but that doesn’t seem to be working here.
