Back to spinning!
May 20, 2007 at 10:04 pm | In Life in General, spinning | 1 CommentYeah! After what seems like weeks of packing, packing, packing, and moving, and unpacking, unpacking, unpacking….well….I’m still unpacking. I decided to give myself a treat and start to spin again. I have been going to guild (and hosting in my new home!).
The house is a lot of work. We inherited a lot of problems from the previous owner as well as a LOT of things that we knew were unfinished. It seems that all I do is get up, go to school to teach, come home to either paint, varnish, pound nails, tend the veggie garden, dig new flower beds, or lately there has been helping mend a huge leak in the basement during the torrential rains we’ve recently had, or help mend the roof where the shingles blew off! I don’t think there hasn’t been part of me that hasn’t been sore since we started packing about 8 weeks ago. Did I mention that final exams for my two masters level classes were in the middle there too? I’m really looking forward to summer…
The fun parts are the Fiber Garden Yarn Swap. My first swap! I tie-died the “deadly” yarn a creamsicle color. I think it came out cool. I should have dyed the rest the same color because now I want my shawl in that color instead of the white. I only dyed 6oz. to send. Here it is:
My recent project is some dark brown, almost black roving I uncovered while unpacking. It feels like alpaca, but I bought it in a sale bin that just said “top.” Could I have gotten so lucky?
Yesterday I went to a fiber festival at a local sheep farm. The fall festival they host is usually huge, so I was disappointed that there were so few vendors and classes. I did get some 50/50 alpaca/wool. The owner did not know what the wool was, she said the processor did the blending and the colors. There is a pink blend and one of bright greens and vivid blues.

Good luck unpacking! (I totally empathize with you — although I just have a one-bedroom apartment, I am in unpacking-land as well…) Your yarn looks really wonderful — I love the color!
